After repairing 600 terrible solder joints done by a guy at Mitsubishi who didn’t give a shit, this is the result.

Kinja'd!!!

Below is the terrible board layout for two of the three PCBs.

Wow! That’s a handy skill. I bet you could fix a bad PCM/ECM/etc. if you had to.

At least it’s all through-hole and not surface-mount.

This one, I plucked from a 1990 Chrysler New Yorker. There were a couple of others that got it, though.

I like your nice antistatic work surface. All the benches I’ve ever used were hard surface, not carpeted :)

I wish. Part of the amplifier board is surface mount, just to screw with your head.

Dude. I missed your messages last night, which I assume referred to this project. I would have been happy to commiserate on this sort of thing! But, looks like you rocked it. Everything looks great! I’d share this to the Soundboard, if you don’t mind.

It’s the defining feature of the Infinity II. Super neat, very late 80s. In a similar vein, I’ve always had a soft spot for the Alpine equalizers of the same era with the digital touch controls. Super neat.

The 1988 Dodge Caravan my father bought had one of these, what you are missing is the speakers that had their own individual amplifiers.

Don’t worry, I also plucked those from the New Yorker I got the radio from. The whole setup is going into my Dynasty. :D

Awesome, that was one fine sounding stereo it really was. Oh and in the late 80s my friend’s father had a Dynasty and we always made fun of him for being a Soap Opera fan

FYI, I am reasonably sure that the boards were wave machine soldered, not hand soldered. I can’t imagine those boards being hand soldered....

Ps, congrat’s on taking the initiative to fixing it. Myself, I’m a master of the cold solder joint.

Aye, they were wave machine soldered from the factory. Mine is now about 95% hand soldered, because I didn’t want to repeat this ever again. It’s a pretty terrible job, and takes several hours of cursing.
